Ironwoods Park Ironwoods Park is the newest park in the Leawood park system. This 70 acres park includes the Historic Oxford Schoolhouse, “Prairie Lessons” Sculpture, Prairie Oak Nature Center, The Lodge, Camp Ironwoods Cabins, and Ironwoods Challenge Course in addition to the Amphitheater. Also located within the park are 2.0 miles of bike/hike trails, a 2 acre lake, an open air shelter and a playground. Future improvements include restrooms, shower house and a state of the art amphitheater development.
Future Development of the Amphitheater The City of Leawood is planning development of an outdoor amphitheater and surrounding areas including theater space, façade, storage, restrooms, parking, viewing areas, the nearby lake, and the walkways to the theater from the parking areas. This will become a beautiful venue to accommodate theatrical performances, musical concerts, cultural arts camps, and other special events. The project will retain the rustic character and functionality of the current park amenities. The development will enhance and preserve the existing natural environment and respect the visual and audio intrusion on the surrounding neighborhoods. In addition to the master plan, the City has budgeted monies for the construction of a restroom/concession facility in 2008. Each year thereafter would address the next phase of construction. |
