Leawood Stage Company presents Our Town

Leawood Stage Company is pleased to present a virtual reading of Thornton Wilder’s Pulitzer prize willing play Our Town. This is the second in a series of readings that give community actors a chance to read classic scripts and for audiences to hear well know plays and be able to discuss the work following the reading.

Our outstanding group of performers, coordinated by Chris McCoy and Carrie Lenahan, will help you escape the limits of the coronavirus from the comfort of your home.

Carrie Lenahan: Stage Directions Act III

“Our Town” tells the story of the fictional American small town of Grover’s Corners between 1901 and 1913 through the everyday lives of its citizens. This simple story asks timeless questions about the meaning of love, life, and death in a continuing circle of life. Our Town was one of Wilder’s favorite works. Dissatisfied with the theatre of his time, he used a metatheatrical style where the narrator/Stage Manager, breaks the fourth wall to address the audience. The play is to be performed with little scenery, no set and minimal, making this a perfect work to be presented as reader’s theater.

Watch the actors read this classic and stay to engage with the cast as they examine the play and its playwright.
