Leawood Stage Company to hold auditions for "Seussical"

The Leawood Stage Company will hold auditions for a family friendly Broadway musical, Seussical directed by Chris McCoy on Saturday, April 10th 10:00 am to 3:30 pm and Sunday, April 11th 1:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Call backs will be held by invitation only on Saturday, April 18th from 1-5 p.m. at the same location.

Everyone auditioning must prepare 16 measures of a song from a musical.  Please bring sheet music in your key, as an accompanist will be provided. Auditioners may be asked to participate in a short dance/movement audition: comfortable dress and shoes are suggested.

Bring a photo and resume if available.

If you cannot attend auditions, video or YouTube auditions will be accepted. Fill out the audition form and email it with your video link to seussical2021@gmail.com by the end of the day on April 10.

Rehearsals for this production will begin on June 1st and will run Sunday through Thursday evenings at The Lodge in Ironwoods Park. We will take every precaution necessary to keep rehearsals and performances social distanced for the safety of all. Leawood Stage company is thrilled to welcome Chris McCoy back as director for another summer production. Chris has directed Music Man, Guys and Dolls, Hello Dolly and Annie for LSC. He teaches theatre at William Jewell College.

Seussical is fun for the entire family and will feature performers of all ages with a children’s ensemble. Based on the works of Dr. Seuss with music by Stephen Flaherty, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, this musical brings to life our favorite Seuss characters.  The show highlights the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community.

Seussical will be performed at the Ironwoods Park Amphitheater and 147th and Mission Road nightly July 9 – 11 and July 15 – 17, 2021.

The Cat In The Hat

Our story's omniscient narrator, he is fun loving and enjoys rhyming. Pops up throughout the story to help the audience. Wise and attentive.

Jojo

The Mayor's son, he is a Who that is always finding trouble. Bright, creative, and inadvertently mischievous. Possesses a wildly expansive imagination and finds solace in his friendship with Horton.

Horton The Elephant

Our story's main character, he is a compassionate and gentle elephant. Misunderstood because of his larger size. He is protective and loving of all creatures in the jungle.

Gertrude Mcfuzz

Horton's one-feathered-tail bird neighbor. Gertrude is sweet and timid. Though kind and loyal, she is also self-conscious of her shortfalls.

Mayzie Labird

The most beautiful bird in the jungle. Oblivious to her self-centered ways, she relies on her talent of manipulation, and intoxicating beauty, to navigate her way through life.

The Sour Kangaroo

The 'leader' of the jungle. She is loud, brassy, and stubbornly set in her ways. A caring mother, but unabashedly sassy and soulful.
